"Thank you for your interest in being associated with the Somaiya Vidyavihar University as a prospective Ph.D. scholar. Design Engineering

"Mechanical Engineering is the branch of engineering which deals with design, fabrication/manufacturing and uses/application of machines in thermal and fluid areas. Design Engineering is one important aspect of Mechanical Engineering which includes use of scientific principles, technical information and imagination in the description of a system to perform specific functions with maximum economy and efficiency. Scientific principles refers to engineering, sciences and mathematics, technical information refers to basic components of a system, imagination refers to combination and configuration of basic components, description refers to drawings of assembly and individual components and maximum performance refers to testing of assembly and individual components. The Design Engineering Group at KJSCE is composed of rich human resources including experienced faculty working on live projects from industry.

The various areas worked upon by faculty members includes machine dynamics, material science, metallurgy, product design and development, lubrication, bearings, wear analysis, composite materials, fracture mechanics, ballistic materials, design optimization etc. Department research focus for improving experimental and numerical methods for reliable evaluation of new materials and systems. Department is also working on the development of various prototype models of vehicles under Mega-Project in industrial situations for sports applications with enhancement in comfort and performance. Department also has modeling and analysis software in order to validate the experimental results with predicted one."
