Diversity and Inclusion

"Classrooms mirror the vast diversity that is omnipresent, ranging from religion, culture, ethnicity, languages, region, socioeconomic, status as well as gender amongst the many. The roots of multicultural education emerged in response to the educational needs of a society that continues to struggle with the realization that it is not monocultural but rather an amalgamation of many diverse cultures.

Researches in the past have focused on strengthening inter-cultural tolerance, however, there is a shift in paradigm now towards accomplishing plurality through education and social change with the emergence and development of new ideas about diversity and inclusion. Increasing diversity leads to the possibility of an enriched and engaging academic environment, where greater learning and growth can take place. This necessitates researches to gear towards not only exploring the range of diversities dominating education but also respond via designing and analyzing culturally relevant pedagogy in order to effectively meet the challenges of teaching diverse student populations."
